Avon Motorcycle Tyres out in force for pre-‘55 Goodwood Revival races
MELKSHAM, UK, 5th Sept, 2018 – Avon Motorcycle Tyres will be out in force at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival (Sept 7-9), catering for the vast majority of the 30 bikes competing in this year’s Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy races.
The motorcycles competing in the meeting this year are all pre-1955 models, and nearly all are expected to run on race-ready versions of Avon’s AM26 Roadrider tyres.
The annual jamboree of historic racing and period glamour that is the Goodwood Revival always attracts some of the finest classic and vintage race vehicles – this year, BMW will bring three of its stunning pre-war racing machines to compete against a raft of other manufacturers, including Vincent, Norton, Brough Superior, Rudge, BSA, Triumph and Velocette.
Among the racing stars who will be aboard the superb field of bikes will be Avon brand ambassador Steve Parrish, John McGuinness – fresh from his return to Isle of Man victory in the Classic TT two weeks previous – ex-Grand Prix stars Freddie Spencer and Jeremy McWilliams, James Hillier, Guy Martin, Connor Cummins, Charlie Williams, Mick Grant, Lee Johnston, Gary Johnson, Daniel Cooper, Maria Costello and Michael Rutter.
Avon’s motorsport sales manager, Steve Smith, said: “The Revival is one of the year’s blue-riband race events and a must-see for anyone who loves motorsport in any form.
“The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy motorcycle races are always among the most keenly-fought of the weekend, and it’s fabulous to see such an incredible array of motorcycles being pressed back into action – and at one of the only circuits where they can race on a track that is largely the same as it was when the bikes were in period.”
Goodwood Revival action gets underway on Friday with practice and qualifying sessions. Saturday and Sunday each host a single Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race.
