Avon Tyres equips ‘WM Sport GT’ Jaguar E-Type restoration with CR6ZZ tyre

MELKSHAM, UK, APRIL 14, 2020 – Avon Tyres has been chosen by Woodham Mortimer to feature on the specialist restoration firm’s latest Jaguar E-Type build. Intended to be “the ultimate road-going E-Type” available to purchase, the ‘WM Sport GT’ will be fitted with Avon’s popular CR6ZZ tyre.

Featuring an all-weather tread pattern, the Avon CR6ZZ is a road legal radial competition tyre. It has been specifically designed to complement the chassis characteristics of classic and historic performance cars, with suitable aesthetics. A new addition to Woodham Mortimer’s line of custom-built Jaguar E-Types, the WM Sport GT is based on a 1966 Coupé. It boasts a 4.7-litre engine that delivers around 400bhp, along with a bespoke five-speed gearbox and vented brake discs.

Michiel Kramer, Sales and Marketing Director, Avon Tyres, said, “We feel proud to see an Avon tyre on the WM Sport GT – having been chosen above many other tyre manufacturers now active in the classic scene. It is a stunning vehicle, worthy of the very best components, and we are happy to be playing our part with tyres that offer great performance and complementary aesthetics.”

Peter Haynes, CEO, Woodham Mortimer, said, “The Woodham Mortimer WM Sport GT is the ultimate in bespoke E-Type restorations. Each car is lovingly created by some of the industry’s most skilled craftsmen and, with 400bhp, it has serious performance. For us, Avon Tyres is the premium choice for a car such as this, as we need a tyre that provides sure-footed handling and performance characteristics.”

Established in Melksham in 1885, Avon manufactures tyres for a variety of vehicles – on the road and on the track. Over the years, iconic brands such as Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce have selected Avon’s products as original equipment. Alongside this, Avon has headlined championships such as British Formula 3 and British GT. To this day, pioneering research, development and manufacturing of Avon tyres takes place at the company’s UK headquarters.

Meanwhile, Woodham Mortimer is renowned for sourcing, restoring and maintaining some of the world’s most significant road and racing cars. All projects, from component rebuilds to full-blown restorations, are carried out in a state-of-the-art, 150,000 square foot facility in Chelmsford – which houses a team of around 60 highly skilled craftsmen and engineers.
