Avon Tyres confirms sponsorship of the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building
MELKSHAM, UK, 10th September, 2018 Avon Tyres has signed a multi-year agreement to be the sponsor of the freestyle class in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
The AMD event is a unique custom bike competition set up by AMD magazine and hosted at the INTERMOT show in Cologne (October 3-7, 2018) in Hall 10 as part of ‘INTERMOT Customized’.
Classes include Café Racer, Modified Harley Davidson and Retro Mod, with 100 bikes registered to compete from over 30 different countries and entrants being voted for by ‘Peer Group Review’ rather than a set panel of judges.
A leading manufacturer of custom motorcycle tyres since the 1970s, Avon will sponsor the freestyle class of the competition, from which the AMD World Champion is always voted for.
Doug Ross, Avon Tyres’ Head of Global Motorcycle Tyre Sales, said, “As a company, Avon is proud of its heritage and, as a custom bike tyre market trend setter, we are especially proud of our reputation as the tyre of choice for so many of the market’s greatest and most innovative designers and craftspeople.”
Avon’s pedigree as a custom bike tyre maker came to the fore in the ‘70s, thanks largely to its work with custom bike legend, Arlen Ness. Its Venom product quickly became the favoured option for custom builders worldwide. The Cobra range offers extra wide sizes for custom bikes and a number of whitewall variants. Avon continues to work with the makers of the modern classic bikes that form the basis of many custom builds.
A new Avon custom bike tyre is in the final stages of development and is due to be launched later this year at Intermot.
