Avon Tyres celebrates a successful Caterham Motorsport season opener

MELKSHAM, UK, APRIL 13, 2022 - Avon Tyres is proud to have kicked off a successful start to the 2022 Caterham Motorsport season as it continues its exclusive partnership with the series.

An impressive 114 Caterham Cars were equipped with Avon Tyres at Brands Hatch last weekend (9-10 April) for the first round of the BRSCC Caterham series. In the first of an eight-event championship series, four categories of Caterham took to the Indy circuit to compete around one of Europe’s most iconic circuits.

The 1.2-mile Brands Hatch circuit was an ideal location to start the season, with the challenging track proving to be an ideal testbed for the cars’ handling and performance. The long sweeping corners that define the Kent circuit demand a tyre that can deliver peak performance across a wide variety of conditions.

Four factory-supported championships were in action with a total of 114 competitors in action:

  • Caterham Roadsport Championship racing on Avon ZZS
  • Caterham Seven 270R Championship racing on Avon ZZS
  • Caterham Seven 310R Championship racing on Avon ZZS
  • Caterham Seven Championship racing on Avon bespoke slicks and wets

Only the Caterham Academy class was absent from the Brands Hatch timetable, with the entry-level class beginning its championship at Snetterton on 21st May.

Avon Tyres launched its high-performance racing slick tyre to the Caterham Seven Championship last year with unanimous support and positive feedback from drivers and teams. Classed as the pinnacle of Caterham racing, the Seven Championship features the very best Caterham drivers and teams.

Besides the Caterham Seven Championship, which runs a slick and wet-weather tyre, all other categories run a bespoke set of all-weather, road-homologated tyre developed and manufactured by Avon Tyres.

Caterham Cars has worked with Avon Tyres on the specification of the tyre to create close racing regardless of the experience level of the driver or vehicle power. For instance, the Academy tyres are tuned to provide less grip, allowing less experienced drivers to learn car control before moving up the ladder.

The efforts made to supply tyres for the track also help Avon Tyres develop the OE tyres for all Caterhams sold worldwide.

James Weekley, General Manager, Motorsport, Avon Tire Europe, said: The Caterham championships offer some of the best racing and action on a national level. On a personal level, the Caterham Motorsport community feels like one big family, and while there is always fierce competition on the track, there is always camaraderie in the paddock because drivers and teams love the championship. It was fantastic to see this continue with 114 cars taking to the track for the first time in 2022. I know everyone at Avon Tyres is proud of our involvement and history with Caterham which goes back to the late 80s.
